Edwin "Ed" Oing, 95, of
Evansville, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 9, 2010, at Deaconess
Hospice Care Center, and was a previous resident at Holiday Village.Ed was born on August 4, 1915, to the late Margaret (Wilm) and Bernard Oing. He graduated from Haubstadt High School, received his undergraduate degree from Evansville College. He also achieved a Master of Arts Degree from Indiana University. Ed retired from Central High School in 1980, where he was head of the Math Department. He was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran and served from 1940-1945 as a meteorologist and officer. Ed was a charter member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, lifetime member of Knights of Columbus and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also an avid New York Yankees fan and bridge player. Ed is survived by daughter, Janis Hollingsworth (Stephen) of Evansville, Ind.; sons, Keith Oing (Rebecca) of Richmond, Va., and Gary Oing (Kathy) of Groveland, Calif.; sister, Alvina Rueber of Evansville, Ind.; brother, Cletus Oing (Faye) of Fort Branch, Ind.; grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, and Elizabeth Oing, Lauren and Michelle Oing, Bridget Hollingsworth; great-grandchildren, James, Jillian and Katie; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corine (Loewenkamp) Oing in 2001; sisters, Eleanor Hisker and Lorene Oing; and brothers, John and Melvin Oing. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 600 Herndon Drive. Entombment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Mausoleum. Friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, August 13, 2010, at Browning Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church or Deaconess Hospice Care Center, 600 Mary Street Evansville, IN 47747. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center and Deaconess Hospice Care Center for all of their care during Ed's final days.
